I watched this TV show Food Safari featuring Korean Cuisine and chef Chung Jae Lee’s Bulgogi dish sometime ago. I have bookmarked this episode and looking forward to try his recipe and today I have accomplished it. Voila!

I used Pork instead of Beef.

Ingredients

  • 6oog scotch fillet ( I use pork loin )
  • 3/4 Korean soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 40g sugar
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 nashi pear ( I use one apple )
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Pinch pepper
  • Pinch salt
  • Grape seed oil or Olive oil
  • 1/2 onion sliced
  • Spring onion sliced ( I add 1/2 julienne carrots )
  • Sesame seeds
  • Pine nuts (optional)

Optional: you can add chopped spring onion. Garnish with sliced red pepper and sesame seeds.

Method

  1. Slice the pork as thin as possible. Add Korean soy, water, sugar, garlic, salt and pepper. Puree the nasi pear and onion in a blender and add this to the marinde.
  2. Leave to marinate for approximately 30 minutes.
  3. Just before cooking, mix through sesame oil.
  4. Heat a heavy based pan and add either grape or olive oil. Cook marinated pork loin for around 3 minutes, adding the marinate sauce so as not to dry the meat. Add sliced onion and spring onion and cook for another minutes.
  5. Serve immediately, garnish with pine nuts, sesame seeds and sliced red peppers.

This dish can be served with steam rice or placing a small amount of steam rice in a lettuce leaf, a slice of bulgogi and small amount of kimchi. Roll up and eat. Enjoy la!
