I received this tub of homemade pickles called Achar. It is so delicious I could finish the whole tub at one go. Looking at its delightful color tells how appetizing and mouthwatering this Achar is.
Amazingly it is so delectable. It s not sour nor spicy unlike the Indian version Achar.
I had a cup to myself at dinner and I was tempted to go for more hahha! .
According to Jon, this condiment is an Eurasian version of Achar. Well done Julie!
Briefly, Achar is a popular staple food to the Indians, likewise as Kimchi to the Koreans and Miso to the Japanese.
It s a variety of vegetables pickled, made of usually carrots, cucumbers, cauflilowers, french beans and cabbages. They are then preserved in brine, vinegar and cooking oil.
The vegetables are mixed with some Indian spices like tumeric powder, chilli powder and mustard seeds. Salt and sugar is added to taste. After they are lightly cooked, they can be kept in an airtight jar and stored in the fridge for several days. It can be served as an appetizer.
Happy Days!
